8:30am
Classes
I’m studying English, Mandarin, history, biology, maths and dance. As part of the IB, I am also expected to gain new experiences in creative pursuits, sport and service. I’m a member of the Global Relations Council, which brings more cultural celebrations into SMC, for example, earlier this year we organised an event to mark the Lunar New Year.

11:25am
Dance studio
Dancing is a real passion of mine and I’ve been dancing since I was three years old. I recently completed my diploma in contemporary dance, and I’m now working to complete two further diplomas in dance by the end of next year as part of the IB programme.

12:40pm
Co-curricular time
I play the violin, which I’ve been learning since I was five years old. I play in the school orchestra, the chamber orchestra and I’ve recently joined a string quartet with other girls in the Senior School.

1:30pm
Lunchtime
Dance and orchestra take up the majority of my lunchtimes, or I spend time with friends from across the Senior School, either outside in the quad, or in our Year 12 common room. Then it’s back to classes.

3:30pm
Preparing for performances
After school I’ll often have dancing lessons. I’m in the Senior Dance Company. I love performing with my friends, and there are lots of opportunities to perform on stage throughout the year. We are currently preparing to perform at the opening of a new performance space in Christchurch, as well as being invited to perform at College events such as Matariki.

5:30pm
Study time
After I've finished studying I like to call my family in Japan to keep connected with them.
