St Margaret’s College held its first Lip Sync Battle this week, raising funds for Child Cancer Foundation. The event was organised by the College’s Educating Girls Globally (EGG) student committee, with six student groups competing on stage. Special guests included prefects from our brother school Christ’s College, and staff making cameo appearances in support of the acts.
The event was created and run entirely by our EGG student committee, who recruited performers and staff judges, and managed the event end-to-end, from merchandise sales, to ticketing, to the sound and lighting desk.
EGG is our College charity, established in 2013 by then Head and Deputy Head Prefects Gussie Cohen and Lucy Tothill, with the aim of increasing the standard of, and access to, girls’ education globally. The student-run committee, made up of girls from Years 11 to 13, researches and chooses which charities to support each year and organises fundraising events from concept through to delivery, with staff mentors supporting from behind the scenes.
The Lip Sync Battle was a truly joyful occasion, but it also goes to the heart of our College’s founding value, dedication to a higher purpose, while providing a genuine leadership and service opportunity for our students.
