Old Girls

We value our connections with a thriving community of St Margaret's College Old Girls, located in New Zealand and around the world.

St Margaret’s College Old Girls’ Association

We work closely with the St Margaret’s College Old Girls’ Association (SMCOGA). SMCOGA’s mission is nurturing connections – past, present and future.

We are deeply appreciative of SMCOGA and the Old Girls who generously contributed to funding the naming rights for the Old Girls’ Atrium, following the Christchurch earthquakes of 2010-11 and the rebuilding of much of the campus, and who continue to lend their support to our College.

What does the Old Girls’ Association do?

SMCOGA’s mission is to nurture connections — past, present, and future. It does this by hosting events and reunions, sharing updates about our alumnae community through SMC Connect, newsletters, and social media, and helping to ensure our alumnae feel part of College life long after they graduate.

How does my daughter join the Old Girls' Association?

All students automatically become members of SMCOGA upon graduation. Alumnae can register and update their details on SMC Connect, our community portal, to ensure they are included in news and events.

How can alumnae get involved once they leave school?

Our alumnae are involved in SMCOGA in a range of ways. This may be by inspiring our current students through sharing their career paths and skills at careers events and assemblies, returning to the College to coach sports teams and arts groups, or attending events and reunions and networking with, and mentoring, alumnae across the generations. Alumnae can also get involved in the SMCOGA Committee and are invited to list their business in our  Foundation Business Directory

Does the OGA offer a scholarship?

Yes, SMCOGA supports a scholarship for the descendants of our alumnae. Further details can be found under scholarships

How many alumnae do you have?

Over 11,000 students have walked through the St Margaret’s College gates in the past 115 years. St Margaret’s alumnae are located all over the world and can often be recognised by their Leavers’ ring, which students are invited to purchase towards the end of Year 13.

What kinds of events does SMCOGA run?

SMCOGA runs a full calendar of events. Students are welcomed into the association alongside their families, at the Leavers’ Ball held at the end of Year 13. Recent graduates attend Margarita events around New Zealand and reunite to open their time capsule ten years after graduation. Twenty years on from their Year 9 year, they’ll be invited to their first class reunion, and every ten years after that.

In addition, SMCOGA runs events around New Zealand and internationally, sports tournaments, and networking events. Alumnae are also warmly invited to College chapel services, sports fixtures, and performing arts events. Alumnae events are listed on SMC Connect.
