St Margaret’s College students achieved outstanding results during this year’s Winter Tournament Week:
Hockey: National champions in the 1st XI competition, securing their title in an outstanding campaign, with Zara Gamble named in the U18 Future Black Sticks programme. The 2nd XI also excelled, finishing 3rd at the National 2nd XI Tournament.
Football: Lotto Sportswear South Island Tournament title. Our football team goes from strength to strength, having recently placed first in our Winter Quadrangular Tournament.
Cycling: Emma Crawford (Year 11) led the way in her events, taking out Queen of the Mountain, Sprint Ace, and U16 Champion at the Southern Tour.
Netball: Our Senior A finished 3rd at the South Island Secondary Schools Championships, qualifying for Nationals. The team also secured the Best Goal Difference trophy, with Annie Francis and Lulu Inglis (both Year 13) marking the milestone of 150 games for Senior A, and Lulu Inglis, Annie Francis (both Year 13) Julia Mitchell (Year 12) and Sophie Ockwell (Year 11) named in the tournament team.
Badminton: Amanda Yang (Year 12) and Sophia Yang (Year 10) were Doubles Consolation Plate winners, with Sophia also securing the Consolation Singles Plate at the Canterbury Secondary Schools tournament.
Equestrian: Our Red Team placed 6th out of 53 teams at the South Island Championships, with numerous individual successes including first places for Gemma Blackburn (Year 12) in the 70-80cm showjumping, Gretel Dampier-Crossley (Year 10) in the 80cm pony arena eventing and Sophie Gibb (Year 11) in the 90cm horse arena eventing.
Rugby: Our team placed 7th at the Buller South Island 10s.
Snowsports: Our Year 1–6 and Year 7–8 teams both placed 2nd in their competitions.
Basketball: The Junior team placed 6th at the South Island Junior Championships.
Winter Tournament concludes highly successful Winter and Summer 2025 seasons, with our athletes named national champions for hockey, volleyball and rowing, and national and regional success across multiple codes.

The people and programmes across Team SMC allow our girls to shine, from our Junior School right through to our Senior School.”
