Summer Tournament Week

It has been another remarkable season for sport at St Margaret’s College, as the New Zealand Herald Top Sporting School for Girls. During Summer Tournament Week, over 220 athletes competed across 11 codes across New Zealand, and achieved the following results:

National Volleyball Championships
Our Senior A Girls came away with a stunning second-place finish at the national level in a demonstration of the skill and team spirit these young women have played with all season.

National Rowing Championships
An outstanding showing, with 14 SMC crews placing in the top 10, and with Silver medals for the U18 1x, U16 8+ and U17 8+, and Bronze in the U15 8+ and U18 8+.

North Island Secondary Schools Tennis Cup
A sixth-place finish for our tennis team, and all the more creditable given that several of our players were away competing internationally at the time, highlighting the real depth in our tennis programme.

South Island Athletics Championships
A remarkable collective performance, with eight first places and four second places across track and field events, including four championship records broken.

South Island Water Polo
A thrilling final saw our water polo team finish as silver medalists, well deserved after a strong season.

South Island Korfball Championships
Two St Margaret’s teams flew the flag, with strong performances across the board. Our Senior A team, competing jointly with Christchurch Boys’ High School, earned a Bronze medal.

South Island Touch
Our young Touch team showed real character throughout the competition, finishing their campaign with a win to place 7th overall. An encouraging result for a developing squad.

Canterbury Regional 1st XI Cricket (Gillette Cup)
The 1st XI Cricket team won four from four and is currently top of the Gillette Cup competition. Rain forced the postponement of the final round robin game and the finals, which have been
rescheduled for Term 4.

Canterbury Secondary Schools Golf
A terrific effort from our golf team, who placed 15th overall as the youngest team in the entire competition.

Christchurch Secondary Schools Canoe Polo League
Our Open B Grade Canoe Polo team took the win in a fantastic result, a fitting reward for a squad who competed with real flair and determination throughout the season.

Congratulations to all our athletes for their hard work, determination and heart, and to the staff, coaches and community who support them.
