St Margaret’s College rowers competed at the South Island Secondary Schools Rowing Championships last weekend at Lake Ruataniwha, returning with a strong set of results across a range of crews and age groups. By the end of the regatta, St Margaret’s had secured two gold medals, two silvers and two bronzes.
One of the weekend’s highlights came in the Girls U16 Coxed Eight, where the St Margaret’s crew took gold in a time of 6:59.96. Another gold medal came from Scout Phiskie in the Girls’ U18 Single Sculls, who delivered a strong and composed race to win in 8:21.22.
St Margaret’s also recorded two silver medal finishes with the Girls U15 Coxed Eight and the Girls U17 Coxed Eight crews, both finishing second in their events.
Two further podium finishes came with bronze medals in the Girls U17 Coxed Four and the Girls U18 Coxed Eight.
The regatta brought together the rowing community of the South Island, providing valuable racing experience for all crews. With results across multiple age groups and boat classes, the team now looks ahead to the Maadi Regatta on Lake Ruataniwha in a few weeks’ time.
