Academic excellence at St Margaret’s College

Congratulations to St Margaret’s College students on their outstanding academic achievements.

With a remarkable 98% pass rate for NCEA Level 3, 99% for Level 2, and two International Baccalaureate (IB) top scholars, St Margaret’s students have achieved the best academic results in Christchurch (again!) and maintained our rank among the highest internationally through the dual pathways of IB and NCEA.

Diana Patchett, Executive Principal—now in her seventh year leading the College—says:

“I could not be prouder of our students. Their outstanding achievements are a testament to their hard work and the unwavering support of our exceptional teaching staff, who ensure every girl receives the best possible foundation for future success.”

“St Margaret’s long-standing tradition of academic excellence continues. This year’s results further highlight the benefits of our custom-designed Year 11 curriculum, the Senior School Foundation Diploma, introduced in 2022 to replace NCEA Level 1. The Diploma is tailored specifically to our girls’ needs, preparing them to take on the challenges of IB and NCEA Levels 2 and 3 and beyond.”

Over the past seven years, students have achieved an average pass rate of 97% for NCEA Level 3 and 95% in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).

Additionally, St Margaret’s students have significantly outperformed national results in literacy and numeracy, with a pass rate of over 90% for the new mandatory Year 10 Literacy and Numeracy co-requisites, introduced in 2024.

Please note: NCEA results published by NZQA may differ, as NZQA and the Ministry of Education report NCEA achievement based on total student enrolment rather than the number of students who undertook NCEA in a school. This excludes the achievements of students who pursue the IB instead of NCEA.
