The Lodge has three bunk rooms, and accommodates 15 bunks in total. A common room adjoining a kitchen area, is heated by an internal enclosed fire with wetback. A bathroom houses two sinks, a shower and flushing toilet inside, with four rustic long drop toilets outside. The combined facilities provide basic but warm and comfortable accommodation.
An ideal location to get away from modern life and back to nature, the lodge is available to hire, and has been enjoyed by generations of St Margaret’s College students and staff and their families since it was officially opened in 1970 by then Head Mistress Molly Mullan.
Named after the College Trust Board Chairman, Clem Paterson, who was passionate about tramping and mountain climbing in the Southern Alps, the Lodge represents the efforts of staff, students, families and Trust Board members to purchase a forestry workers’ house and create this special facility.
Paterson Lodge has a place in many of our Old Girls’ hearts. Together with our Parents and Friends Association, our Old Girls are strong supporters and regular visitors.
