The Old Girls’ Atrium is a wonderful space that joins worship, performance and sporting facilities in the St Margaret’s College chapel, auditorium and gymnasium complex.
It was designed by Athfield Architects and built by Hanham and Philp contractors to replace the previous school chapel and gymnasium severely damaged in the 2010 and 2011 Christchurch earthquakes. The complex, including the Atrium was officially opened by His Excellency, Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae, GNZM, QSO Governor-General of New Zealand on 13 May 2013 and blessed by Bishop Victoria Matthews.
The naming rights to the Old Girls’ Atrium was made possible through generous donations from Old Girls all over the world. Our sincere thanks to everyone who supported the Atrium Appeal and made it a reality.
We are also very grateful to the Luney Family for their gift and we are delighted to recognize this by way of naming of this spectacular Auditorium – the Charles Luney Auditorium, which so beautifully completes this stunning complex.
The Old Girl’s Atrium is available for hire, please contact our facilities hire co-ordinator, Joanne Symon for further information and pricing.
