‘There’s a Tuesday’ duo Natalie Hutton (Y13) and Minnie Robberds (CGHS), took out the solo/duo category at the national final of Rockquest in Auckland on Saturday. The duo was one of 10 of the country’s top high school bands, duos and solo performers chosen to compete at the finals after beating more than 800 acts from across the country.
Natalie and Minnie performed two original pieces at the final, Sound of the Stars and Piñata Head. Natalie said she was overwhelmed with excitement when their names were called out. “The other two solo/duo acts were phenomenal. There are just no words, we are honoured.
“It was the biggest crowd we’d performed to. It was nerve-racking and so exciting. Looking out over heaps of people is something we’d like to do again.”
‘There’s a Tuesday’ won $3000 in musical equipment from the Rockshop, a grant from NZ on Air to produce a single and music video and a branding package from Imaginary Friends.
Natalie said they were keen to release some music in the next few months and were unsure of what they would be doing next year, but they would both love to have a full-time career in music.
Their win sees them join the ranks of Smokefree Rockquest alumni including Broods, Kimbra, Opshop, Evermore, Ladyhawke, Marlon Williams, Brooke Fraser and Bic Runga.
