Date: 6th June 2018
In a change to external examinations offered – ICAS English will be replaced with the Kiwi English Competition. Years 5, 6, 7, 8 and the top Year 9 ENSS and top Year 10 English classes will sit the exam. While ICAS has been popular it is based on the Australian curriculum meaning that no teaching or learning from the school can take place.
The Kiwi English competition, is an examination for Year 5-10 students, administered by the Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring (CEM) at the University of Canterbury. It is a skills-based competition that closely aligns itself with the New Zealand Curriculum. The tests are designed by New Zealand teachers, for New Zealand students. Over the past several years, this competition has proved to be very successful with around 350 schools throughout the country participating.
The cost is $8.50 and will be charged to your daughters account. The Competition date will be confirmed later but will be held towards the end of Term 2 with results confirmed in Term 3.
If you have any further questions, please contact either: Julie Calder (Head of Junior School); Kathryn Gray (Head of Middle School) or Angee Robertson (Head of English).
